A powerful central defender, Duffy came through the ranks at Everton and made his senior debut at the age of 17 in the Europa League.

After a brief loan spell in the Championship with Burnley, he got some valuable experience under his belt in League One with Scunthorpe United in the first half of the 2011/12 season, before returning to Everton where he was given a first taste of Premier League football.

The 2013/14 season was an excellent one in Duffy’s development as he was a star performer in the Championship for Yeovil Town, featuring 39 times, with his form leading to the first of his 55 caps for the Republic of Ireland that summer.

Soon after, he made a permanent switch to Blackburn Rovers and was a mainstay in their defence for two seasons, scoring seven times in 69 outings.

The summer of 2016 was a memorable one for Duffy as he was part of the Ireland squad at the European Championship where he featured twice, including for the entirety of their famous 1-0 win over Italy.

He followed that up with a move to Brighton, who broke their transfer record to bring the towering defender to the south coast, and his arrival coincided with a phenomenal season for the Seagulls.

Up until suffering a metatarsal injury in March 2017, Duffy started every match of Brighton’s promotion winning campaign, as they secured a place in the Premier League for the first time in their history.

Duffy was back fighting fit for the start of the new season, and went on to play in 37 of Albion’s 38 league matches – missing one through suspension – as they secured survival with a 1-0 victory over Manchester United with two games to go.

2018/19 was another productive campaign for Duffy and his side, with the centre-back winning the club’s player of the year award, while the team again avoided relegation, in addition to reaching the Semi-Finals of the FA Cup.

A year later, Celtic brought Duffy to Scotland on loan, and he started the campaign with three goals in four games for club and country.

During his time in Glasgow, Duffy won the Scottish Cup – which had been delayed from the previous season due to the pandemic – and also claimed a runners-up medal in the Premiership.

Back at his parent club for last season, Duffy helped Brighton reach their highest ever Premier League finish of ninth, bringing up 150 appearances for them in the process.

A man comfortable in both boxes, Duffy currently has 28 career goals to his name.
