Marco Silva wants his Fulham players to back themselves going into the 2022/23 Premier League campaign.
Last season will go down as one of the best in the history of the football club, and our Head Coach is keen to keep those confidence levels up as we battle with England’s elite.
“We are looking forward to it,” he said in his press conference a day before we host Liverpool.
“We did a fantastic job last season, all of us, we worked really hard to play at this level, where the Club belongs in my opinion.
“And from tomorrow we have to embrace the challenge, be really positive. It will be a long season for us.
“We know that for all teams it will be a tough season, the hardest one, but we have to embrace this challenge and be really positive, trust in ourselves.
“During the season we know we will have ups and downs, but we have to be really positive and confident that we can reach our target.
“The main thing for us is to be as competitive as we can in each game, to do our best to win the football match.
“I know our position in the table will come as a consequence of our performances and the points that we get.
“It’s a cliché, but the next game is always the most important one, and for us the most important will be Liverpool, because it’s the first one.
“As a target, everyone knows what the target is for clubs who come from the Championship. Even if you did this in a fantastic way, in a fantastic style, I think it’s clear for everyone what is the target.”
When asked for his thoughts on hosting one of the title-favourites on opening day, Silva said he’s looking forward to it.
“I think it’s the best way to start,” he explained. “The main thing for us is to play at home, be back in the Premier League with our fans with us.
“To play against one of the best teams in the world, one of the best teams in the Premier League, I think is a fantastic way to do it.
“Big respect to them, but we have to trust in ourselves and do our maximum to enjoy the challenge, and let’s see the result.
“But of course, we go into every match to take points for us, definitely.”
