Marco Silva provided some insight into the injury which is set to sideline Harry Wilson for the immediate future.
The winger missed our final pre-season friendly against Villarreal last week with a knee injury, and unfortunately it’s not one with a quick recovery time.
“He got an injury in a behind closed doors game against Aston Villa,” Silva revealed. “It’s difficult to give a timeline.
“He’s getting some feedback from the specialist, but it will not be something really short.
“For sure it will be more than eight weeks. They are saying that for sure.
“If it’s less, that would be very good for us. Let’s see how long it can be.”
When asked if this could impact Wilson’s World Cup hopes, Silva remained optimistic.
“I don’t think so, and I hope not because he really deserves to be there,” he said. “He is really important for us.
“He is a big, big miss for us, with the way we play, what he can give us in certain games with his profile. Completely different things to the others.
“I think the World Cup, we have to be positive, he can help us even before the World Cup. But it’s something we’re not sure on yet.”
Nathaniel Chalobah will also miss the season opener with Liverpool through injury, but Silva confirmed that the remainder of his squad is fit.
