January 18, 2023 5:40 pm

There was no league game for Fulham Women on Sunday however, we hosted a friendly against Leicester City U18s. The friendly was used to learn and grow as a team and to experiment with new playing ideas.

The starting XI saw the return of Edie Kelly in goal, back from injury. As we were playing a friendly the game was split into thirds, each third started with a different variation of the 16 named players on the team sheet. It was great to see Lola Almendros from the U18s side named in the team sheet this week, strengthening our development pathway.

From kick-off Ellie Olds was strong on the ball and broke down the Leicester’s defence but missed the first few chances she created. Leicester where first to score, however this triggered Fulham to become more precise with thier finishes and Ellie Olds got her first goal bringing the score to 1-1 at the end of the first third.

In the second third, Fulham had the majority of possession allowing them to score another two goals. A second from Ellie Olds, and the trialist scoring the third for Fulham assisted by Annie Thomas.

Tia Foreman further extended the lead by delivering a corner that was put into the back of Leicester’s net by one of thier own players. After that blunder Leicester did manage to get one goal back making it 4-2.

This lead was not enough for Fulham, who were on the hunt for more goals, Ede Buchele and Georgia Heasman battled and broke through the Leicester defence once again and both grabbed themselves a goal. Making the score 6-2 at full time.

“The friendly yesterday vs Leicester was a good opportunity for the team to regroup and refocus on our game model following last weeks hard fought draw. It was great to see further U18s players on the Team list gaining pitch time and embracing the different challenges posed”
