Despite all the success he’s had in his illustrious career, Willian can still count humility as one of his many qualities.
That said, even he was able to appreciate the quality of his strike against Nottingham Forest on Saturday.
“Yeah, the goal was amazing! It’s one of the best,” he replied when asked if it was the finest he’s ever scored with his weaker foot. “It was good, it was good. A beautiful goal.
“I think the most important thing was to win the game, and I’m happy because I helped the team to win. We got the three points, and let’s look to the next one now.”
Willian – who made his first start for Fulham in the reverse fixture at the City Ground in September – was a thorn in the Reds’ side throughout his 72 minutes on the pitch, and was unfortunate to see another effort come off the post in the second half.
“It was unlucky,” he admitted. “I should have scored two, no?
“But it’s okay, at the end we got what we wanted. Now it’s time to rest and be ready for the next game.”
The introduction of Emmanuel Dennis and Jonjo Shelvey 10 minutes after the restart heralded Forest’s best spell of the afternoon, but the Whites held firm before settling matters with Manor Solomon’s late clincher.
“I think they had three chances maybe, but we were always there,” Willian stated. “We suffered a little bit, but we suffered together.
“When we had the ball, we played, and we played with confidence.
“An amazing, amazing result for us. When we play at home we have to get the job done, and I think we played well.
“The second half maybe there were a couple of moments where we struggled a little bit, but I think we deserved the three points. It was very important for us.
“We deserved to win, and now we just have to keep improving, keep moving, and carry on in the same way.”
