Fulham Women played in the Quarter Finals of the League Cup this weekend against Dorking Wanderers FC Ladies at the Meadowbank Stadium. Dorking are a Division 1 side however the Fulham team knew that this match was going to be a tough game, which in the end was well fought between both sides but Fulham came away with the win.
The starting XI included new signing Anisha Hill for her debut appearance, and Libby Stratton was also a named substitute for the Fulham side.
In the opening minutes of the game Loïs Konan took charge and continuously worked hard to regain the ball and create opportunities to score for herself and her teammates. In the 8th minute of the game her resilience had paid off as she put Fulham ahead.
Fulham Women were the ahead by 2 goals very quickly as Summer Roberts scored her second competitive goal, which was once again a well-placed header.
Both Edie Kelly and the Dorking goalkeeper made some great saves during the game forcing the teams to work hard to score goals.
Before half time Dorking did manage to get a goal from the penalty spot, making the score 2-1 at half-time.
Dorking came out fighting in the second half and got a second goal straight away, bringing the score line to 2-2, putting Fulham Women under pressure to get a third goal to secure the win.
Charmaine True was brought onto the pitch in the 64th minute and impacted the game greatly, with fresh legs she created new movements shook up the Dorking defence.
Fulham Women stayed determined and kept pushing on towards the Dorking goal. It was Ede Buchele assisted by Charmaine True who scored the winning goal, Buchele faced with a 1 on 1 with the keeper was not going to mess this opportunity up, she was disguised and sent the ball into the back of the net.
The score line was now 3-2. Fulham did not become complacent, the defensive unit of Mary Southgate, Becky Stormer, Tia Foreman, Tessa Allen, and Megalie Mendes continued to be a strong force and kept the Dorking forwards out.
Charmaine True and Ede Buchele did not stop attacking until the final whistle, causing the Dorking defence issues.
Fulham Women are now through to the Semi Finals of the League Cup which will be played against Worthing FC Women at Motspur Park on Sunday 5th March.
