After being named in the Premier League team of the week, Issa Diop reflected on a magic month to be Fulham, starting with the big result on the South Coast last weekend.
“It was massive because Brighton are a very good team,” he said. “It was tough but we stuck together and at the end we had a very important three points.
“It was a really tough game so when you score that late goal it’s always a very good moment. We were very happy.”
Our towering centre-back was deservedly named in the best XI of the weekend throughout the league for his dominanting display, but for him this is not something he is focused on.
“I’m happy because we got the clean sheet, team of the week isn’t important.
“I’m just happy with the team, the way we are performing defensively and I hope we will keep this up.”
Another shut out at the weekend meant no league goals conceded in three games this month and eight clean sheets this season for the Whites, a statistic Diop knows the importance of.
“We know that if we want to have a good season we need a lot of clean sheets, and at the moment we’re doing it a lot so I hope we will keep doing this.
“We’re still improving and that’s a good thing.
“The mood is good. Everyone is happy, everyone is working hard.
“We are enjoying this season so it’s good.”
Despite the chants of European aspirations from a noisy Fulham away end on Saturday, Diop is keeping it humble.
“We’re just sticking to the game plan.
“We’re taking the games weekend after weekend and we’ll see at the end of the season where we are.”
The next hurdle of the campaign is Wolves under the lights at Craven Cottage on Friday, and despite our form our defensive unit knows it’ll be a stern challenge once again.
“Wolves has always been a tough game to play, a difficult opponent.
“We know it’s going to be a tight game, a very tough game and we’re ready for that.
“It would be very good to keep up what we’ve done since the World Cup break, so I hope we’ll do it.”
