This Wednesday, Fulham played CB Hounslow in the Combined Counties Midweek Cup. The fixture took place at Leatherhead FC under the lights and a little bit of rain.
As one of the aims for this competition is to strengthen our pathway, once again the Fulham squad named for this game included a combination of First Team players and Under-18s.
Fulham showed some strong build-up play from the first whistle, stringing together strong passes from the back between Mary Southgate and Emily Bird and pushing the ball forward using clever passes around the Hounslow players.
The first goal of the game was scored by Ede Buchele, as she performed a high press and pinched the ball from the CB Hounslow defence.
Two minutes later, a quick reaction time from Chloe McNee put her in a perfect position to hit a rebounded ball into the net, putting Fulham two goals ahead.
The ball then became magnetised to the crossbar as both Summer Roberts and Ede Buchele’s next attempts on goal hit it and rebounded away.
Fulham had several more attempts on goal that were either saved or went slightly wide.
The final goal in the first half was then scored by Summer Roberts who had linked up with U18s player Lola Almendros.
The second half was full of goals for Fulham; 10 minutes in Chloe McNee got herself a second goal, then seven minutes after that Summer also scored her second.
Both goals scored using their heads, showing that the attacking unit were dominant in the air.
Megalie Mendes shows her adaptable playing style as she came onto the pitch in a forward position before moving to right-back, the position she was in when she scored the sixth goal for Fulham.
Summer Roberts ended the game scoring another two goals to make the final score 8-0 to Fulham.
Fulham Women are now through to the Quarter-Finals of the Combined Counties Midweek Cup.
