João Palhinha has won a second Man of the Match award for his performance against Manchester United.
It’s a rarity that a player on the losing side is awarded MOTM by a television broadcaster, so ITV deciding Palhinha was the standout performer speaks volumes about Fulham’s dominance for the vast majority of our cup tie.
The Fulham fans were in agreement, with more than half (51.1 per cent) of them voting for Palhinha.
Alongside his midfield partner Harrison Reed, Palhinha ensured the Whites controlled proceedings at Old Trafford, limiting our hosts to a handful of half chances at best.
“If I could change this trophy for a victory, I would change it now,” João told FFCtv after being asked about his Man of the Match award.
“The result is really frustrating. Some things we can’t control, but it was clear that we deserved to win this match. I think, until 70 minutes, we were the only team trying to win the match.”
Reed came second in the Fulham vote with 18.9%, ahead of goal scorer Aleksandar Mitrović who garnered 8.4%.
