Harry Wilson was thrilled to see Fulham return to winning ways with some aplomb away to Everton.
The Whites were without a win since February going into the Goodison Park fixture, but blew our hosts away, particularly in the second half, to move onto 42 points in the standings.
“It’s massive,” was Wilson’s assessment of the win. “Before the season started we set ourselves a target and I think we reached that today actually, so that’s good.
“It was a massive game for us. We’d not been on the best run of late and we knew coming here that it was a must-win game for them, but it was for us as well because we wanted to get back to the levels that we’ve been at for most of the season.
“For the last couple of months we haven’t been there, so today was great to get three goals and the win.
“For us now it’s about finishing in that top half and as high up as we can.”
Wilson got our crucial second goal, and was also involved in the opener after his sweet strike came back off the post before Harrison Reed put it in.
“I missed one before that when one came to us on the edge of the box, so that was in the back of my mind,” Wilson said. “And after the one hit the post, I wasn’t sure if it was going to be my day.
“It was a great team move in the second half, and then Willi’s cutback fell lovely for me. Then it was just about the connection.
“To score my first [league] goal of the season, which had been quite frustrating for me, was great.”
Every Fulham goal killed the momentum being built from the home fans in the stands, which Wilson explained was all part of the plan.
“That was a big part of our team talk before the game,” he revealed. “We knew if we started well, we’d be able to cull the atmosphere a bit, because you could tell walking out onto the pitch today that they were up for it.
“And I think the way we started the game, we did that. I think for 20, 25 minutes we were good.
“We let them back into it a bit at the end of the first half, they managed to get the goal, and you could see how the atmosphere changed.
“And I think second half, after the first five, 10 minutes, as soon as we got the goal, we controlled the game and controlled the atmosphere as well.”
