MATCHDAY RECAP: WORTHING

April 19, 2023 12:24 pm

Fulham Women welcomed Worthing back to Motspur Park, as they face off against each other for the third time this season.

Worthing had knocked Fulham out of the League Cup after winning 2-1 at Motspur Park back at the start of March,  while two weeks prior to Sunday’s game, Fulham travelled down to Worthing and lost 2-0 in the league.

The starting XI almost mirrored the previous Worthing line-up, but with Anisha Hill replacing the injured Helen Ogle.

Alex Hayman and Ede Buchele returned to the line-up as substitutes after recovering from injury.

The first half saw the ball travel end to end, as both teams put in a good shift to try and claim the opening goal.

Some great link-up playing between Georgia Heasman and Summer Roberts created a shooting chance for Lois Konan however this was pushed wide for a corner, which was cleared by the Worthing defence.

Heasman was next to have a go on goal, but also saw her effort put out for a corner.

At the other end, Fulham goalkeeper Libby Stratton made a string of fine saves to ensure the score remained goaless heading into the half-time.

Unfortunately, Worthing started the second half strongly, breaking the deadlock after five minutes.

Hayman was brought onto the pitch to try and add a different threat, and that she did, playing many creative passes to Fulham’s wing-backs and forward players.

Ede Buchele entered the pitch and brought her speed with her, challenging the Worthing defence.

But despite our efforts Worthing grabbed a second goal in the 79th minute, giving the Whites a mountin to climb.

Buchele drove into a shooting position as we continued to push, but the Worthing goalkeeper was able to preserve her clean sheet and condemn Fulham to a 2-0 defeat.

Another difficult result to take but the players are consistently putting everything into our performances. We are creating good chances & I have no doubt this will turn into positive results across our final 4 games.
