MAN OF THE MATCH RESULT: LEICESTER

May 10, 2023 12:30 pm

Tom Cairney has been named Man of the Match after his brace helped Fulham to secure a 5-3 victory over Leicester City.

After playing a role in our second goal scored by Carlos Vinicius, Cairney added his own name to the scoresheet just before half-time, collecting the Brazilian’s pass and shaping to shoot on his left.

That sent defender Caygar Soyuncu to ground, allowing our skipper to bend a sumptuous curling strike into the far corner on his right foot.

“I think the defender thought I was either going to cross it or shoot on my left foot, which everyone would expect,” TC told FFCtv. “He’s really gone for the chop, so it gave me a lot of time to compose myself and find the bottom corner, which was a rare thing with my right foot!”

The Whites stalwart doubled his tally in the second half, receiving a square pass from Kenny Tete – who claimed his fifth assist of the season in the process – before calming firing low into the net.

It was a stunning performance from the Fulham number 10, one that was not lost on his Head Coach.

“Even if he’s not always starting from the beginning of the matches, he’s been a really important player for us this season,” Marco Silva said. “It’s nice to see him arriving in certain areas where we’re always demanding for him to arrive.

“It was a great performance from him, two great finishes, really sharp with both. It’s not a surprise for any of us – we know him.”

42.5 per cent of supporters who got involved went for Cairney as our best performer against the Foxes. Willian was also in devastating form and duly came in second with 29.4%, with Harrison Reed in third (7.6%).
