Midfielder aiming to carry goals from pre-season into upcoming season

Josh Brownhill has enjoyed impressive form in front of goal in pre-season after netting three in his last two matches and the centre-midfielder hopes he can hit the target often in the Premier League this season.

The 27-year-old grabbed seven goals last season in the Sky Bet Championship, the most during a single campaign since joining the Club and the former Bristol City skipper has followed up that form this summer.

Brownhill struck a brace in last week’s friendly victory against Port Vale at the training ground before firing in the Clarets’ second of the afternoon last Friday against Sheffield Wednesday in a 3-0 win.

Speaking post-match against the Owls, Brownhill discussed his current form and how the team have started off in pre-season: “We did really well today, and we’re getting a lot of minutes in the bank to try and get up to speed and we’re slowly getting there.

“A few goals for me in the last couple of games which is obviously something I tried to do last season and I did that, and I can hopefully take something similar into the Premier League.”

“I think the players that have come in were recruited for a reason, they’re good players and have integrated really well and the boys have welcomed them with open arms.

“It’s going to be a tough season but we’re working hard as a group and training well, so we’re all looking forward to it.”

Pre-season has seen a handful of academy youngsters play their part in the friendly fixtures, which has seen U21 striker Joe Westley score against Port Vale whilst recent signing Basilio Rieno Socoliche scored the winner against Burton Albion and set up one of Brownhill’s goals against Vale last week.

Brownhill has been impressed with the youngsters’ form and had plenty of praise for them after a fourth pre-season win last Friday.

“The academy lads have done really well; a couple of the lads have come in and scored a couple of goals in the last couple of games and have got a few assists and there’s some bright players in the team.

“There’s a lot to learn and they’re still young but they’ve got a lot of quality and I’m sure that if they keep improving, they’ll have great careers.”

Friday’s friendly with Wednesday saw the Clarets wear their new 2023/24 home kit and Brownhill is impressed with the new style Umbro shirt.

“It’s really nice, it’s always nice to have new kit every year but this one is really nice. I love it.”

This season’s home shirt is available in store and online.
