Forward returned to the scoresheet in pre-season game against Whites
Lewis Richardson netted and grabbed an assist in the U21s 3-0 victory over Leeds United at the Burnley Training Centre.
The forward returned to Clarets action following a loan move to Grimsby Town and after a lengthy absence through injury.
Richardson played in a deeper midfield role, allowing himself to become more involved in the play and help with the forward press, which was highly effective against the Leeds defence.
And despite it being a tricky game, he was happy with the way him and his teammates played, saying: “We applied the way we’ve been training into the way we play and managed to secure a good 3-0 win.
“It was a tough game; Leeds are a good side but we worked hard and kept the ball well to do what we do best.
“It was also nice to get back on the scoresheet as it’s been a while but I’m glad I’ve got that taste for goals back again.”
After scoring two goals in fifteen appearances for Grimsby, Richardson returned to the Clarets, but suffered an injury setback.
Now recovered from said injury, the 20-year-old says he is ‘feeling good’ ahead of the rest of pre-season and the beginning of the new campaign.
“I’m feeling really good and fit and as the games keep in coming, that will only continue to improve.
“We’ve got Scotland next week and hopefully we can keep building our fitness and building on the performance we put out today.
“It will be good to be around the lads for a week and get to know everyone properly, especially the younger lads that are coming with us, and hopefully that will help us to keep winning.”
