Five-star performance as Clarets stroll to victory
Burnley’s U21s side stepped up their preparations for the new season by thrashing Hibernian ‘B’ 5-1 at St Andrews in Scotland on Wednesday afternoon.
Lewis Richardson struck for the second successive pre-season game with Joe Westley & Dan Sassi both scoring before half-time to send the Clarets into the break with a 3-1 lead.
Basilio Rieno Socoliche netted with a fantastic goal in which he took one touch to beat a defender following a crossfield pass, beat another marker, and then curled past the ‘keeper.
Westley finished once more from close range to seal a convincing victory and cap off a superb Clarets performance.
Coach Andy Farrell said after the game: “The boys were very good and worked the ball really well and when they got into the final third, they caused Hibs all kinds of problems.
“We had Marcel [Lewis], Basilio [Rieno Socoliche] and Renaldo [Torraj] causing their defence all kinds of problems and Joe Westley in the middle who was putting the ball into the back of the net.
“It’s good to get a positive result but performances are the most important thing really for our lads.”
