Half-a-dozen Clarets geared up for weekend international fixtures

The second half of the Clarets on international duty could feature over the weekend after six players all featured on Thursday night in the first round of fixtures.

Johann Berg Gudmundsson, Ameen Al-Dakhil, Arijanet Muric, James Trafford, Zeki Amdouni and Lyle Foster could all feature in their country’s first international fixture of the break this weekend.

Johann Berg Gudmundsson (Iceland) v Luxembourg, Friday 8th September 7:45pm (A)

Iceland travel to Luxembourg in their first of two 2024 Euro Qualifiers over this international break where a win at Stade de Luxembourg could see Iceland move to 4th position in the table is Bosnia fail to beat Liechtenstein.

Gudmundsson is currently on 86 caps for his country and is fast approaching the 100 mark after making his senior debut in 2008.

Ameen Al-Dakhil (Belgium) v Azerbaijan, Saturday 9th September 2:00pm (A)

Al-Dakhil has started all three of the Clarets’ Premier League fixtures this season which has seen the defender recalled into the Belgium senior side again.

The centre-back was included in the Red Devils’ senior set-up for the first time in the summer and made his debut in the same match as Mike Tresor against Austria.

Belgium currently sit 2nd in their respective 2024 Euro Qualifying group but a win against Azerbaijan on Saturday could see them move top.

Arijanet Muric (Kosovo) v Switzerland, Saturday 9th September 7:45pm (H)

Muric could come up against Clarets teammate Amdouni on Saturday, as Kosovo host the 2024 Euro Qualifying group table-toppers Switzerland in Pristina.

A Kosovo win could see them move above 5th placed Belarus as Muric and his teammates look to secure a spot in the Euros next summer before taking on Romania on Tuesday.

Trafford (England U21) v Luxembourg Monday 11th September 5:00pm (A)

Trafford and the Young Lions only have one fixture over the September break as Lee Carsley’s side travel to Luxembourg on Monday.

It will be England’s first Euro U21 qualifier, with the hosts currently sitting top of the group having beaten Northern Ireland on Thursday afternoon.

Amdouni (Switzerland) v Kosovo, Saturday 9th September 7:45pm (A)

Switzerland face Kosovo in their first of their two 2024 Euro Qualifiers, where Amdouni could come up against Muric in goal.

Sitting currently top of the group, Switzerland could extend their stay at the top with victory against Kosovo before hosting Andorra at the Stade de Tourbillon on Tuesday night.

Foster (South Africa) v Namibia, Saturday 9th September (H)

Bafana Bafana have two friendlies lined-up for the international break with Foster set to feature after a fine start to Premier League life after scoring two goals in the first three games.

South Africa host Namibia on Saturday before facing DR Congo on Tuesday afternoon in Johannesburg.
