Winger looks ahead to Premier League Cup opener

Basilio Rieno Socoliche is looking to keep improving, ahead of Friday’s Premier League Cup Group G opener against Leicester City.

The winger has been a regular feature in the U21s side this season and is consistently impressing with his performances, including in last week’s 3-0 win over QPR at Turf Moor in the Professional Development League.

And after a week that has involved training with the first team, Socoliche believes his teammates are more than ready for the difficult test that the Foxes will pose them and that the team can only keep improving.

He said: “We know it’s going to be a tough game, but we’ve prepared well all week and I feel very confident that we can deliver a good result.

“We’ve had a couple of days training with the first team this week, and I think that has benefitted us as a group in terms of the quality of training, and it’s made us more than ready to go into the game.

“I think we’ve put some good performances in so far this season and now it’s just a case of just finding that consistency and carry on picking up good results.

“Personally, I’m happy at the moment with how I’ve been playing, but I just want to keep improving throughout the season and contributing to the team’s success whilst getting minutes into the legs for myself.”

The U21s come into this game on the back of the aforementioned victory over QPR at Turf Moor, last Friday.

Joe Westley netted a hat-trick on a day that Socoliche says was a proud moment for himself in his career.

He added: “Playing at Turf Moor against QPR was a proud moment, as it was the first time I’ve been able to play there and the fans that turned out to watch us were great.

“It was a special day and a great team performance, and we were happy to get the three points against a strong in-form team like QPR.”
