Clarets travel to Foxes in Premier League Cup opener
Burnley FC’s U21 side will face Leicester City in their opening game of Group G in the Premier League Cup at LCFC Training Ground (7pm KO).
The Clarets head into this game after an impressive 3-0 victory over Queens Park Rangers in the Professional Development League, in a fixture hosted at Turf Moor.
Joe Westley’s perfect hat-trick ensured the U21s secured the three points as they now sit fourth in the Professional Development League North table.
In their previous four games, the Clarets have seen a resounding 4-1 victory over Colchester United, a hard-fought 2-2 draw against Cardiff City, and a 3-1 loss away to an experienced Millwall side.
Friday’s opponents Leicester City have made a slower start to the season than Burnley, only securing one victory, against Derby County, running out 2-1 winners with goals from Amani Richards and American Zach Booth.
The Foxes’ previous game against Norwich City ended in a 3-2 loss in Premier League 2, with Silko Thomas and Tawanda Maswanhise’s strikes not enough to stop them from falling to defeat.
That result means that Leicester, headed by former Stoke City and Hull City defender Ben Petty go into this Group G fixture on the back of three defeats.
