Youngster proud to make first Premier League start
Aaron Ramsey was proud to make his first Premier League start against Manchester United at Turf Moor on Saturday night and despite the narrow 1-0 loss believes the Clarets have lots of positives to take from the game.
Only a Bruno Fernandes goal proved to be the difference and the Burnley midfielder almost came close to netting his first goal as he hit the post in the first half.
Talking after the game, the 20-year-old spoke of his pride at making his first league start and bringing the positive performance into the upcoming week.
“We didn’t come out with three points, but I think that everyone can see a lot of positives that we can take from that, that we can take into the next game. Hopefully the three points come soon but in the changing room all of us are taking as many positives as we can from it – and there’s quite a few.
“It’s Manchester United and I think that we more than competed and hopefully next time we get the three points but like I said loads and loads of positives from the game, and we can just build from that.”
It was a special occasion for Ramsey, whose family and friends were in attendance to witness it.
“Yeah, it was a proud moment for myself, my family, friends and hopefully I can just build on that. I hope I can keep doing what I’m doing and hopefully next time get the three points.
“My family were all here watching, supporting as usual.”
The home side gave their all throughout the 90+ minutes, enjoying large spells of possession and a flurry of chances to take the lead. It was not meant to be come the full-time whistle though, however Ramsey believes the creative, attacking style of play Vincent Kompany is imparting on the players was on show.
“Yeah, I think when I came there’s loads and loads of tactical, the way the gaffer wants us to play which is amazing and makes us better players. It’s going to take us time and I think that we’ve shown today that we’re getting there, we’ll keep getting better and hopefully we can just keep getting better. Three points will come soon, and we’ll just build on from that and keep getting there.”
Ramsey and Burnley’s attention turns to the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night with a visit to Salford City, shortly followed by a weekend trip to St James’ Park next Saturday.
“Hopefully we can get two wins in that week, it’s a busy week and then we’ve got two games next week as well. We just prepare for the next game, analyse this game and hopefully the wins will come.”
