A clean sheet for Waller and Dodgson, Bastien and Weghorst all secure wins in this week’s loan watch

Part Two of this week’s ‘Loan Watch’

13 players are currently on loan deals away from the Club, across various leagues and countries, including the Danish Superliga, Scottish Premiership, German Bundesliga and Turkish Süper Lig.

This tally includes players from both the first team, and U21s and below is a round up of how the final six players, in alphabetical order, fared in this week’s fixtures.

Michael Mellon (Morecambe)

Mellon did not feature in Morecambe’s game this weekend, as he was serving his suspension for his second bookable offence sending off against Gillingham a week prior.

His teammates managed to battle to a 2-2 draw in a tricky affair against a high-flying Swindon Town side, with Jake Taylor and Ethan Walker on the scoresheet for the Shrimps.

Derek Adams’ side now sit 14th in the Sky Bet League Two table and face a trip to Forest Green Rovers on Saturday before a Lancashire derby against Accrington Stanley on the following Tuesday.

Owen Dodgson (Barnsley)

In the first of two games this week for the Tykes, Dodgson played 89 minutes as Barnsley saw off the challenge of Northampton Town, winning 2-1 on Saturday.

The on-loan defender was then uninvolved as a young Barnsley side came out 3-1 winners against Manchester City’s U21s in the EFL Trophy.

It’s Blackpool next up for Dodgson and the Tykes, as they welcome the Seasiders to Oakwell on Saturday, and in a busy week, they also travel to Cambridge United on Tuesday night.

Samuel Bastien (Kasımpaşa S.K.)

Bastien came off the bench in the 60th minute as his loan side Kasımpaşa defeated Adana Demirspor 3-1, in a game that saw the opponents have three players red carded as Apaçiler saw out the victory.

That result leaves Kemal Özdeş’ side sat 9th in the table, and they have picked up nine points from six games so far this season.

On-loan Clarets midfielder Bastien could next be in action on Sunday, as Kasımpaşa face Fatih Karagümrük in the Turkish Süper Lig.

Sam Waller (Hyde United)

In the first of two games this week, Hyde picked up a 1-0 victory against Basford United, scoring in the eleventh minute of stoppage time as Waller both played 90 minutes and kept a clean sheet.

Waller then played another full game on Tuesday, away at Stafford Rangers, as the Tigers battled to a 2-1 victory, and now sit 13th in the Northern Premier League Premier Division.

Next up for Waller – who is on-loan with fellow U21 Jack Turner at the Tigers – is an Emirates FA Cup tie against Marine on Saturday, with a league trip to Atherton Collieries to follow next Tuesday.

Scott Twine (Hull City)

Twine featured twice this week for the Tigers, first up with a hard-fought 0-0 draw against Leeds United last Wednesday, in which the midfielder played 71 minutes.

Following on from that was success against Luke McNally’s Stoke City for Twine, who came on as a substitute in the 65th minute as Hull cruised to a 3-1 win against the Potters, in a result that leaves them an impressive 4th in the table.

It’s another double match week for the Tigers this week, as they host Plymouth Argyle on Saturday before travelling to Ipswich Town on Tuesday night.

Wout Weghorst (TSG Hoffenheim)

Weghorst played 55 minutes in Hoffenheim’s 2-0 victory over Union Berlin, with Andrej Kramarić and Maximilian Beier netting in the win that took Pellegrino Matarazzo’s side up to 5th in the table.

The Netherlands international striker has featured four times for his loan side in the German Bundesliga, missing only one game through injury, as Die Kraichgauer are unbeaten with Weghorst in the side.
