Goalkeeper looks ahead to Saturday’s visit to Newcastle United

James Trafford knows the Clarets have a challenging task on there hands this Saturday as Vincent Kompany’s side take on an in-form Newcastle United at St James’ Park but hopes Burnley can continue the progress in performances and pick up a result.

After three defeats in the Premier League, Burnley then picked up a point away at Forest followed by a strong performance against Manchester United last weekend and a 4-0 win in the Carabao Cup at Salford on Tuesday.

Trafford believes the Clarets have made significant process since the opening day of the season and although is aware of the threat Newcastle will have on Saturday, the shot-stopper wants to make the hosts as ‘uncomfortable as possible’.

The 20-year-old said: “We have a gameplan like we do for every game, we just need to try and execute it this weekend.

“We’ll be going there to try and get a result and get a win. We will need to try our best to unsettle them and make is as uncomfortable as possible.

“We believe in ourselves and the team we have here to put a strong performance in, we just need to show that this weekend.

“From the opening game against City a few weeks ago to now, there is big progress and I think you can see that in the last few performances.”

Trafford added: “They’re (Newcastle) a great team and it’s clear to see, they’ve shown that over the last few games and some of the results they have got.

“St James’ will be rocking I presume and their fans will make it as difficult as possible for us. We will also have a sell-out away following again and they will be getting behind us.”

The Clarets will be searching for the first three points of the season against the Toon after a run of positive performances and Trafford hopes the visitors can head into the international break after next weekend’s clash with Chelsea, with more points on the board.

“We have played well in the last three games. We got the point at Forest, which on another day could have been a win.

“I thought we played well against Manchester United and we were unfortunate just not to score, especially after the strong first half.

“There’s a lot of strong ability and talent within the group and things are starting to click for us on and off the pitch.

“We’ve got a busy week of three games now until the international break and we want to go into that break with more points in the table.”
