Defender looks ahead to Tuesday’s Luton clash

Ameen Al-Dakhil believes the Clarets are heading in the right direction as Vincent Kompany’s men prepare to take on the Hatters on Tuesday night at Kenilworth Road.

Burnley come into the game after a defeat at St James’ Park on the weekend but the Belgian youngster says there are ‘good signs of progression’ since the opening day defeat to Manchester City.

The Clarets have faced five of last season’s top eight in the top-flight so far this season, but now take on fellow Championship promoted side Luton on Tuesday and Al-Dakhil insists the side are improving every week as the Clarets search for a first three points of the 2023/24 campaign.

The 21-year-old said: “I think we are getting better and performing better which I think you can see from the last few games.

“If you look at the performance and way we played in the first 2/3 games to now, it’s a big difference and I think you can see that.

“It’s a good sign of progression, although we are frustrated still with the start but things are getting better for us game by game.

“I think if you see we only have one point it probably doesn’t reflect on the way we are playing.”

Al-Dakhil added: “We have played some good teams, but we can’t sit and think about the past and think too much about games that have happened.

“It’s about now putting mistakes right that have been made and training hard and hopefully get some points on the table.”

Burnley head to Kenilworth Road with the hosts having just picked up their first three points at Everton on the weekend and Al-Dakhil knows the Clarets will be in for a testing evening in Luton.

“Every game for us is big. Whether we play Manchester City or Luton, we want to win every game no matter the opponent.

“We always prepare the same for every match and the preparation stays the same for this game.

“Luton were difficult opponents last season and we had a hard game away from home and it will be like that again on Tuesday night.

“We have both had difficult starts to life in the Premier League, but we will go there with the aim to win and that’s it.”
