Striker back in the team and back on the scoresheet

Lyle Foster returned to the Clarets starting line-up on Tuesday night and continued his goal scoring form by putting the visitors ahead in first half stoppage time.

Resolute defending and a Jacob Bruun Larsen winner saw his side earn their first three points of the Premier League season.

“I’m so happy with got the win today. I think it was a very, very tough game. Very good first half for us and obviously Luton came out and piled on the pressure. They got the goal that they wanted but I’m just happy we got the win in the end. Brilliant goal from Jacob and its good to get our first win in the Premier League and we kick on from here.”

A stunner from Jacob Bruun Larsen put the Clarets ahead again after Luton had drawn level through Adebayo, and Foster wasn’t surprised to see his teammate produce such a quality strike.

“We needed that one! He pulled it out, but I’m not surprised we see him do it in training day in, day out, so for him to pull it off in a game at this time when we needed him, we’re all very pleased for him. Hopefully we can just continue with this momentum.”

On his goal, his third of the campaign, the South African international added: “I think it was a good from Sander, I left the ball to him, he picked it up, played me in with a very good pass and luckily, I had one or two touches and I just tried to put it round the goalkeeper. It went in, so yes, the first goal and I’m just happy for the goal but more importantly very happy for the three points tonight.”

A noisy Kenilworth Road made it no easy feat for Burnley and the squad had to dig deep away from home.

“Yes, it got tight, especially with the crowd here you know, they were behind the boys, but I think we did well to stick together, we defended well and it was one scrappy goal that they scored. But again, I say big congratulations to Jacob.”

With the first three points on the board, Foster believes the win and the performance of both the game and those played previously can be built on.

“It’s something big, I think we needed this, it’s something the locker room needed. We’ve done well in the beginning of the season, tough games, but I think we were able to show ourselves against really good teams as well. I think we just needed this one for the confidence going into the weekend against Chelsea. Hopefully we can step it up again and then go into the break with good momentum.”
