Clarets boss delighted with first three points
Manager Vincent Kompany confessed his pride for his team after the Clarets secured their first win in the Premier League this season with a 2-1 victory against Luton Town.
Lyle Foster returned to the side following his three-match suspension and marked it with a cool finish on the stroke of half-time. Town equalised in the 84th minute at Kenilworth Road, before substitute Jacob Bruun Larsen equalised with a tremendous effort from outside the area a minute later.
Speaking post-match in Luton, Kompany was pleased to see his side come out on top but praised the way his side operated all over the pitch in a ‘battling performance’.
The Burnley boss said: “It feels great. We had to battle for it tonight, but it’s three points in the Premier League and I’m proud of the team tonight.
“I’m really happy for the group, for the fans, the staff and everyone. We knew this team was capable of getting results and it showed tonight.
“Performances have been good recently and we showed a lot of quality tonight. Defensively we showed character too with the clearances, headers and second balls.
“It’s a great win for us and a nice moment as a manager, but I’m ready now to try bring the first win to Turf Moor for the fans.”
Kompany added: “What got us through the Championship was shown tonight and we had plenty of games like this last year.
“We have such a young team. Players 22, 23, Al-Dakhil 21 and they are just going to get better and this was a great experience a game like tonight for them.
“I thought it was a game that deserved it’s place in the Premier League, with two teams that showed that they are going to give everything this season.”
Foster’s opener saw the South African grab his third of the season in the Premier League, before Bruun Larsen curled home his first in the league after scoring his first Burnley goal against Salford last week.
Kompany applauded both the forward’s for their performances and goals on Tuesday night, the Clarets chief said: “As a manager you give credit to the players when they do well and you take responsibility when they don’t and that’s the nature of the job.
“This moment was entirely him (Bruun Larsen) and he did great to affect the game like that. He has deserved it and I’m really pleased for him.
“It’s exactly why we got him! He used to be one of the greatest young talents in Europe and he has had a difficult journey but he has shown tonight a glimpse of what he’s capable of.”
Kompany added on Foster: “It was a shame for him to be ruled out the last three games after starting strong but it showed signs of being in a place where he belongs
