Clarets take all three points from the Hatters
Burnley claimed their first three points of the season on Tuesday night in dramatic fashion at Kenilworth Road through goals from Lyle Foster and Jacob Bruun Larsen.
Foster marked his return to the side following his suspension with a first-half strike, before Town substitute Elijah Adebayo equalised in the 84th minute.
Just a minute later the Clarets were instantly back in front through Bruun Larsen’s sublime curling strike in front of the Burnley supporters.
Manager Vincent Kompany made one change from the side that played Newcastle United at St James’ Park on Saturday, as Lyle Foster returned from suspension coming into the XI for Aaron Ramsey.
First Half
Burnley forced the first corner of the game five minutes in when Taylor charged into the area from the left and picked out Amdouni to take aim but Lockyer cleared the ball away before the Swiss could fire at goal.
Amdouni then forced Town shot-stopper Kaminski into action after directing a header towards the roof of the net with the Belgian keeper having to tip the effort over the bar for another corner.
The 1,000+ strong Clarets supporters then thought Kompany’s side had taken the lead midway through the first half when Brownhill’s curling strike sailed just over the crossbar.
The away side were dominating the ball and enjoying more chances than the hosts, this time Amdouni broke towards the edge of the box and rifled a shot over the target.
Town then came close to an opener just past the half hour mark when Ogbene guided Kabore’s cross just wide of Trafford’s post from close range.
Then just before the break the Clarets did have their breakthrough and it was Foster marking his return from suspension with a perfectly hit goal.
Berge slipped a well-timed through ball in for the South African strike who charged towards the box and put the ball past Kaminski in the bottom corner in the second minute of added time.
Second Half
The Clarets started bright in the second half and Koleosho had a half chance to double the lead after seeing his low drive stopped by Kaminski.
Luton were then inches away from an equaliser shortly after when Morris, who already has three this season in the Premier League, glanced a corner just over the crossbar.
The Hatters began to apply pressure to the Burnley box and the best chance of the night came when Brown saw his header loop over Trafford and head towards the back of the net only for Cullen to superbly rise high to head the ball clear from goal.
With 20 minutes to go and following a penalty appeal from the hosts as Beyer challenged Morris in the area, Kompany turned to his bench and introduced Ramsey and Bruun Larsen for Amdouni and Koleosho.
Luton’s pressure paid off with six minutes to go when Adebayo slotted home from close range to pull the scores level.
However, less than a minute later Burnley were instantly back in front as Bruun Larsen cut inside from the right wing and put the ball perfectly into the fat corner past Kaminski to seal all three points.
