Defender previews this weekend’s game against Stourbridge
Maria Francis-Jones says the Claret Women are ready to ‘hit the ground running’ as they head into a week involving three games.
First up is the visit of Stourbridge on Sunday, before Halifax also make the trip to the Lancashire FA County Ground and then Burnley travel north to take on Newcastle United in their third game in seven days.
Despite the busy week, Francis-Jones believes that the team are more than up to the task and feeling confident that they can perform well during the next few games.
She stated: “We’re really confident, everybody here is really confident, we’ve had a two-week rest without a game, and everyone is just buzzing to get into it now.
“We’ve been training a lot ahead of a busy three game week and we’re ready to hit the ground running now.
“It’s going to be tough with rest and recovery but I’m sure we’ll find a way to do it and pull it off with good performances in each of the three games.”
The Claret Women have been without a game for the previous two weeks, with the scheduled game against Newcastle United having been postponed, and a cup exit to the same opposition earlier in the season meant that Rebecca Sawiuk’s side also did not have a game this past week.
In their previous game, Burnley recorded a 4-2 win over Nottingham Forest, and despite the two-week break, Francis-Jones is confident that the Clarets still have momentum heading into this Sunday’s game against the Glassgirls.
She added: “Football is all about playing games, and it’ll be hard on the legs, but we want to get three points in every game we play.
“This season’s all about momentum and getting as many points as we can on the board, and hopefully we can keep on with that momentum, through these next few games especially, and keep that going throughout the season as well.
“We hope to see as many fans there as possible on Sunday, so come along and cheer us on, it does really help push us onto the next level and will help us battle to get maximum points from this busy week.”
