Defender looks ahead to Chelsea clash

Charlie Taylor is hoping the return to a full-house Turf Moor on Saturday following three consecutive away games can be used to an advantage as the Clarets search for a second win of the season.

Burnley host Chelsea this weekend following Vincent Kompany’s side’s first three points on Tuesday at Luton Town and Taylor says the confidence is high heading into the clash with the Blues.

Ahead of the game, Taylor highlighted the the danger he anticipates Chelsea to pose on Saturday but wants the Clarets to carry the momentum from the midweek victory.

The full-back said: “It’s another tough team for us to be facing. They have brought in a lot of world class players and although they haven’t started the way they’d have liked, they will be right up there come the end of the season, I think.

“They got a good result on Monday night; I watched that game and they looked a good side. It’s clear they have some amazing players and they have plenty of threat.

“We’re back at home after winning on Tuesday and our confidence is high going into it back in front of another sold-out Turf Moor too, hopefully we can carry the momentum into the weekend.

“We’ll do a lot of analysis over the next few days now and prepare for it the best we can for whichever side they go with on Saturday.”

The Clarets have faced five of the top eight in the opening seven league fixtures this season and Taylor admits it was pleasing to get off the mark on Tuesday but thought performances were going well before that.

The 30-year-old said: “A win always makes everything much better. It takes a bit of pressure off; it was a tough game but it was good for us to get three points and get off the mark.

“We’ve had a tough run of fixtures; we have played some top teams who are all probably going to be up there come the end of the season.

“We have been playing well, performances have been good and for me there was nothing to worry about, you could see results will eventually come.

“Then then ones where you would think we would have chance, Forest we were unlucky to not win there and then at Luton we got our first win.”

Taylor is in his seventh season now as a Claret since joining the Club in 2017 and the defender is enjoying being one of the older and senior players amongst the squad with the majority of the squad being younger than 25-years-old and this being the first time playing in the Premier League.

Taylor, who has 170 top-flight appearances and 195 in total for the Clarets, added: “It always helps to have experience, there’s a few of us in the squad that have it. We have been through runs like this before and we have just said to the younger ones not to panic or worry.

“I’ve been around before we have had much worse runs of form and worse starts to the season and we’ve still managed to be fine.

“We have a lot of young players and lads that haven’t played in the Premier League before but between us there’s a lot of experience amongst us and it’s a good group.
