Clarets boss reviews Cherries result
Manager Vincent Kompany was left ‘disappointed’ following Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at the Vitality Stadium.
The Clarets took the lead early on through Charlie Taylor’s first strike for the Club before goals from Antoine Semenyo and Phillips Billing completed the turnaround for the hosts.
It looked like Kompany’s men had equalised just before the end through Jay Rodriguez’s strike but after a lengthy VAR review the goal was ruled out.
Speaking post-match on the south coast, Kompany discussed the performance, the VAR incident and a late penalty shout for handball.
The Burnley boss said: “First of all, Im disappointed. Disappointed with the result, the decisions at the end, the Jay Rod goal review, the handball.
“It’s over now and we are going to need to lick our wounds and start getting ready for the next game on Wednesday.”
Kompany added: “Charlie (Taylor) has been an integral part of this season for us and last season. We’re pleased for him to get his first goal for the Club.
“I need to see the goals back. Ours and there’s and then i can make more judgement on them.“
Although the Clarets were made to wait over five minutes until a decision was confirmed on Rodriguez’s disallowed strike, Kompany also highlighted the late potential handball in the Bournemouth area as Berge attempted to head home at the back post.
The Clarets chief said: “It’s a tough one to take. But then when the situation happened in the last moment of the game and they don’t take time to review the handball, there’s no call to the referee to delay play when the players have called for it, the staff and the bench could see it, we had a wide angle and we could see there was a handball.
“The ball comes down, it’s never touched by our player. It’s the hand of the player that brings the ball down in front of the goal.
“Imagine that hand is not there, it’s either a header or it goes out of play at the side, but it’s the hand that brings the ball down.
“I know there are other events of the game which as coaches we will look back at and look where it went wrong. I just cant understand what happened at the end.”
