Clarets boss look ahead to Wednesday’s trip to Goodison Park
Manager Vincent Kompany says his team have ‘an opportunity to get a reaction’ against Everton on Wednesday night following the weekend’s disappointment at Bournemouth.
The Clarets fell to a 2-1 defeat to the Cherries but Kompany wants his side to rectify Saturday’s performance at the Vitality and urges his side to ‘show their teeth’ as Burnley face the Toffees in the Carabao Cup fourth round.
Speaking ahead of the visit to Merseyside, Kompany highlighted the importance of how having a large squad benefits when competing in other competitions and what he wants to see from the Clarets on the night.
The Burnley boss said: “Every time you put your boots on, it’s an opportunity to get a reaction. That’s how the group must look at it.
“Having a big squad allows us to use players and compete in other competitions and also give time to those players that will want to use soon.
“At the moment, our concern is not the league or the cup, it’s about our team showing the teeth we know it has and putting in a strong performance.”
The cup tie sees the Clarets come up against former manager Sean Dyche, as well as three former players in James Tarkowski, Michael Keane and Dwight McNeil.
Kompany praised Dyche’s 10-year tenure a Turf Moor and believes it will be a ‘special moment’ for him to come up against the Club for the first time since leaving in April 2022.
“I can only imagine how special it will be on the day for him (Dyche) they’re always special moments and you can’t take those away from the game.
“I’ve had it before like when we played City and it will be no different for him. But soon we will just be locking into what needs doing for the game and to get the best possible result.
“Burnley is a traditional club and haven’t had lots and lots of managers over the years but full credit to his time here, they were overachieving a number of times.”
