Clarets boss reviews Carabao Cup exit

Manager Vincent Kompany believes that despite Wednesday night’s cup defeat disappointment at Everton, the Clarets can take positives from the performance into the weekend’s clash with Crystal Palace.

Goals from James Tarkowski, Amadou Onana and Ashley Young sealed the victory for the hosts but Kompany says his side need to ‘keep on believing and working hard’ to show what they are capable of.

Speaking at Goodison Park, the Burnley boss assessed his side’s performance and wants his team to reward the supporters on Saturday at Turf Moor.

Kompany said: “If I look back at how I was feeling after the Brentford game, I’ll never master the art of feeling good after a defeat, I’ll never feel great, but I feel different to a week ago.

“In large parts we kept it a game. First-half was good, but then obviously mistakes cost us, especially at this level.

“We have to keep believing, keep working hard and improving so we can come back to places like these and get results.

“We’re disappointed the way we conceded the goals. We have to turn Saturday and show the fans what it means to the squad and reward them for their continued support.”

Kompany added: The performance we showed tonight we can get points from but with the mistakes we made, you can’t.

“I keep saying you’re in the Premier League, so when you get promoted it’s not supposed to be easy. You’re still on a journey to get to that level, year one is never easy. That’s part of something we’re experiencing now.

“It’s part of what you have to deal with and you have to go again. The next game is the most important and we have to make sure the next game is the best game.”
